Hmmmm the first and last time I wrote here was in Feb 2021. Wowww time and life has really changed since then and the summary of my life is I have officially transitioned into tech. Yep, during Feb 2021 I was an archivist with Mmofra Foundation, and in September 2021, I got a software engineering job ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰.

At the beginning of the year, I had 2 technically related goals. Learn more about Open Source and Devops. Back in November 2023, I had been accepted into the first batch of All In Africa program so I had a program to learn more what Open Source was and had practice contributing to about 4 open source projects. I successfully graduated ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿพโ€๐ŸŽ“.

Next was Devops, how am I going to achieve this goal? I had personally taken a very popular Udemy course but not implemented a single project. The learning was done but how do implement what I had learnt.

Then came SheCodeAfrica, their #devops channel started posting devops topics and included assignments afterwards. My joy was immeasurable, finally something I can participate in. The icing on the cake is the knowledge sharing to go through the tasks and learn other ways of going about the same thing. I did my best to submit 3 assignments.

I was matched to an experienced Observability engineer in their first DevOps mentorship program as I had earlier indicated my interest. It has been an amazing experience as I have learnt firsthand the difference between the various roles: SRE, DevOps, and Observability. I have also been given my first assignment. To use GitHub Actions to deploy an app to an AWS Instance.

In case you are curious and cannot wait for my next post, which will be about the task, click here to view the project. Until next time, which is soon, stay hydrated ๐Ÿšฐ
